3 Unique Places to Visit in Mexico

You’ve worked hard all year, and it’s time to take a vacation, especially since the summer months have hit. You want to go somewhere with great weather, as well as fun attractions.

Whether you’re not a fan of long-distance travel or don’t have much time, Mexico can be a fantastic choice. It’s in the neighboring country, so you won’t have to go far.

You don’t want to go on the beaten path though. Your adventurous spirit compels you to seek out one-of-a-kind vacation plans.

So where should you go? Keep reading to see three unique places to visit in Mexico.

1. Cancun Underwater Museum

We know that most tourists go to Cancun, so it’s not completely off the beaten path. However, the Cancun Underwater Museum (Museo Subacuatico de Arte, or MUSA) is a can’t-miss attraction.

This is an underwater art installation that has over 500 life-size sculptures. What’s fantastic is the materials are specifically chosen to encourage the growth of coral and other marine organisms, so they function as artificial reefs!

To visit this underwater museum, you have to either snorkel or scuba dive. You can choose to visit different areas within the museum, each with its own theme and sculpture collection.

Afterward, you can rest up in an adult-only resort in Cancun, where you won’t have to deal with unruly children.

2. Copper Canyon

The Copper Canyon (Barrancas del Cobre) showcases a breathtaking gorge with green-blue sprinkles in the summer, hence its name. There’s a vast and dramatic network of canyons here, and it’s larger and deeper than the Grand Canyon. This is definitely one of the places to visit if you’re in the country!

You can take the Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacifico, which is a scenic train journey. It traverses the canyon, and you’ll get amazing views of the cliffs. You’ll also get a glimpse of the indigenous Tarahumara communities.

3. Sculpture Garden of Edward James

The Sculpture Garden of Edward James (Las Pozas) is located in Xilitla, San Luis Potosi. It was created by the British poet Edward James, and when you see the garden, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a fairytale.

Although it took James over 40 years to build the 80-acre garden, it was never finished. However, it’s still a magnificent site, especially since there are unique sculptures nestled within the lush rainforest.

In addition to admiring these sculptures, you can swim in the natural waterfalls, pools, and lagoons here too.
